DAMAGE GOODS

The first thing that goes in the mind of a cancer patient is that cancer is a death sentence. Why is that? Cancer is an ugly, scary word that has a long history of death. Today survivorship is growing with patients taking control of treatment and their attitude towards this new journey in their life.

Damage Goods" is a relatable and inspirational story that addresses the harsh realities of a far too common illness. It illustrates how cancer tests the loyalties of friendship, the bonds of family and the foundation of religion. Rivera's story struck home with me as someone who grew up with a mother that died of cancer. As an adult I've come to the realization that the discomfort and fear I've felt even as a child will never out weight the trials or tribulations of someone with cancer.
